Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis
Your child stands a little unevenly. One shoulder sits higher than the other. Or maybe it's you — a niggling back pain, a posture that's shifted. Someone says it's probably nothing — but something in you isn't so sure.
Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common form, accounting for around 80% of cases, typically developing during adolescence or creeping into adulthood undetected. Congenital scoliosis develops before birth and is usually identified earlier in life.
In children, uneven shoulders, hips that don't quite line up, or a visible curve when bending forward. In adults, chronic back pain, stiffness, or a posture that seems to have gradually shifted.
At ChiroCare, we focus on restoring proper movement to the spine's joints — because a spine that moves well signals well. By addressing the specific segments affected by the curve, we work to improve joint function, symmetry, and support the surrounding muscles to engage more evenly — giving the nervous system the best possible environment to regulate and restore itself.
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that can affect anyone at any stage of life — but here's what most people aren't told. It's not just about the shape of the spine. When the joints of the spine lose their normal movement and mechanics, the quality of the nerve signals travelling through them changes. The nervous system relies on healthy spinal motion to function properly — every joint in the spine feeds the brain constant positional and movement information, helping it regulate everything from breathing and heart function to digestion and energy levels. When that motion is restricted or distorted by a scoliotic curve, research suggests that signalling becomes disrupted.
The brain may receive less accurate information, and its ability to regulate the body's systems can become compromised. Over time, emerging evidence indicates these effects can show up in ways that seem completely unrelated to the spine — fatigue, digestive irregularity, reduced lung capacity, and a general sense that the body just isn't functioning the way it should. What starts as a curve on an X-ray can quietly affect the whole person over time.
